The Beijing Winter Olympics is not only a splendid sports event, but also left a rich legacy of the Winter Olympics. The grand goal of "300 million people participating in ice and snow sports" was fulfilled as scheduled. It has greatly aroused the enthusiasm of the public and young people across the country to participate in ice and snow sports. It opened a new era of global ice and snow sports. The preparation for the Winter Olympics has strongly boosted the high-quality development of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou region and the host cities. It also promoted the interconnection of regional transportation facilities, the joint prevention and control of the ecological environment, the industry development and mutual promotion of complementary industries, and the joint construction and sharing of public services. Shougang has become a new landmark of urban revitalization. Yanqing had been building the most beautiful Winter Olympic city. Zhangjiakou had built an international ice and snow tourism destination. They had made excellent achievements in the preparation of the Winter Olympics and the promotion of local development.   The general public has also benefited from the preparations for the Winter Olympics: the ice and snow industry helps alleviate poverty; there has been a significant increase in employment opportunities; living conditions are improving day by day; more accessible facilities have been set; the cause of the disabled has developed rapidly; the spirit of volunteerism has been widely promoted; the level of civilization of the whole society has been further improved. These legacies have been elaborated in a series of pre-Games legacy reports released by the Beijing Winter Olympics Organising Committee.
